The Harvest Program

Established in 2023

The Harvest Program addresses a critical need in the lives of rescued children as they age. The transition program serves young adults 18+ who are mandated by the Ugandan Ministry of Gender to move out of children’s homes but have not started University study or career training. The program fulfills the replicate function of Sozo’s model of care as it trains young men and women to serve the greater community for Christ.

THE NEED FOR TRANSITIONAL CARE

We see Transitional Care as a critical need for the mental, physical and spiritual growth of the children and families we serve. It is a need that has not been addressed in the larger Ugandan society where the majority of the population is under the age of 18.

About the Harvest Program

Participants in the Harvest program, called Harvesters, engage in spiritual formation and leadership development by working with a mature Christian mentor focused on the 3H approach: head, hands and heart. Harvesters will receive discipleship, continued educational support and servant leadership training.
Harvesters develop economically sustainable skills by participating in internships that coincide with their formal educational training. Additionally, each participant is encouraged to attain training in a vocation.
Harvesters are given the opportunity to mend relationships with biological relatives when possible as a way to prepare to become leaders in their own families or careers.
Harvester training involves two main phases.  Phase one covers graduation and college or vocational school and phase two covers training and programs during the first year of higher education. Training includes voluntarism, budgeting, financial management and leadership courses.
