the vision

All children thriving. All communities transformed.

How We Got started

Taking "Sozo" from the Greek term for "to rescue," we created a dedicated family-style home to provide children with a safe, functional, and suitable place to live and thrive.

Our STory

Sozo Children was founded on May 13, 2010, out of an urgent need to care for neglected children in Uganda. When two missionaries discovered a group of children in dire need of care, they took action. In just ten days, and with help from local Ugandan leaders, the original seventeen Sozo Children were provided with a roof over their heads, clean clothes, and hope for the future.

Testimonials A sponsor’s thoughts

“In the letters, they both shared their accomplishments which I always love hearing but they both shared their struggles and asked me to pray for them. Their struggles are truly unimaginable to me. What an honor it is for me that they would ask me to pray for them!“

Amiee Reeves

Child Sponsor

"By sponsoring Phi I've learned how to truly live out my faith. I have watched her live her life completely surrendering to Jesus."

Meghan Schrock

Child Sponsor

“I realized the work of Sozo was not just worthwhile, but necessary… it’s literally life or death. I’m not naïve about who provides. It’s God’s money, put in my hand to be a custodian of.”

Mike Means

Monthly Giver

“Having a sponsor through Sozo is such a blessing because not everyone gets this chance. Where would I be if I had no sponsor or sozo moms and dads to support, love and care for me? Because of them, I am able to go to school, get medical care, learn about Jesus and feel truly loved.”

how you can help

Do you want to help to improve children’s lives in Uganda? If you’re interested in supporting the great work we do at Sozo Children, here are some of the things you can do:

By sponsoring a Sozo Child, you contribute to our continuum of care which provides each child with quality education, a safe, loving home environment, medical care, proper nutrition, and spiritual direction. From just $35 a month, you could change the course of someone's whole life–and perhaps your own process.

If you feel led to support the overall vision of Sozo Children, you can become a monthly donor known as a Sozo Multiplier. (CLICK HERE) Monthly giving provides critical support of community outreach programs such as Kid’s Club, entrepreneurship training through our Work for Life program, sustainable farming initiatives, and medical and nutritional outreach into the communities around Sozo Village.

Step out on a personal adventure with our staff on a trip to Uganda. Get to know the children and families we serve and grow in your personal relationship with Christ on a mission experience uniquely created for you.

Sozo Trading Co. is more than your average shopping experience. Our upscale thrift store, located in Avondale, provides financial support to the mission of Sozo Children. Supporters can donate items or shop with us in person or online. Sozo Trading Co. also offers sustainable alternatives to the community through its textile recycling initiative.

Sozo Children offers a variety of ways for you or your group to plug into our purpose. Whether you volunteer sorting donations in our store or help at one of our three fundraising events, we are happy to work alongside you as you live out your calling to serve others.
