Update on Short-Term Mission Trips

These are challenging times and people around the world have had to adjust to a new normal because of the coronavirus. According to Christianity Today, more than 1.6 million Christians go on short-term mission trips each year—all of which are currently on hold.  As a current or past team member, we wanted to update you on our plans for mission teams.

Currently, the Ugandan government has restricted travel into the country. Our children and staff in Uganda are all currently safe, healthy, and sheltering in place. While we anticipate restrictions will be lifted soon, we are monitoring travel information from the CDC and Ugandan sources on a daily basis. We are poised and ready to resume travel as soon as it is safe and permissible for our teams and our Sozo family on the ground in Uganda.

We have several trips available this summer and two special trips planned in September— a women’s trip and a men’s trip. If you are interested in sharing the love of Christ on one of our teams, please visit our website to sign up. If you are unable to travel with us this year, perhaps you can participate with us in our Run for a Reason 5K. The 9th annual run will be a virtual run, so you can run, walk, or cheer from wherever you are in the world. If you’d like to participate, sign up at www.sozochildren.org/runforareason. We would love your help to promote the race via social media–share our run posts and nominate/tag five friends to join you! Download one of the pictures below to share on social media and Let’s make our virtual race go viral!

We have been so thankful for all of the support we have received from our Sozo Family, including many of our past team members. Our Sozo Children’s Choir arrived in the states in March and completed about two weeks of their tour before pausing performances. They are currently sheltering in place with us here in Birmingham. You can read more about them here.

Thank you for being part of the Sozo Children family. As we celebrate our tenth year in May, we are grateful for the time, love, and support you have shown through our short-term mission programs. We look forward to resuming trips soon. Please know we are praying for each of you and your families in these strange times.
