When we think about a transformed community, we envision a group of people sustainably living and working together, supporting one another, and raising their children in a Christ-centered home. As we continue to spread the love of Christ in our community, we’ve realized the importance of not only understanding the spiritual needs of Ngongolo, but the physical needs as well.

In order to meet these needs, it’s essential we grow our team in Uganda to grow our relationship with the community to better serve them. We decided it was time for us to take our community relations team to the next level with the hire of Happy! Happy has been sponsored by Sozo Children to first receive his bachelor’s degree in Community Development, and now to pursue his master’s degree in Public Health. Happy joined our staff in March as the Community Relations Assistant, and he will be the first sponsored child of Sozo to graduate with his master’s degree! Happy has already contributed immensely to our community in Uganda, and we are thrilled to have him as a part of our team.
This summer, Happy, with the help of our staff and Encounter fellows, administered a demographic survey to learn more about the community we serve. The purpose of this survey was to give us a snapshot of the children and families served by our Kid’s Club outreach program. Overall, we surveyed more than 400 children and families! The insights gained from this survey enable us to better understand the make-up of our community and begin looking forward to more impactful and meaningful transformation. Check out a few highlights from the survey:

Do you want to help with specific needs of the community? This year, Sozo is raising funds to provide more nutritious meals for our Kid’s Club program in the community. Our goal is to hire a local woman in the community to prepare hot meals for over 300 children twice each week. If you are interested in helping us reach this goal, we invite you to consider becoming a Community Partner with a monthly donation or contribute a one-time gift in any amount at www.sozochildren.org/community-partnership. Your monthly contribution makes it possible for us to reach deeper into the resilient people of Ngongolo.
